Umang 2005- Part 1

The time went a full circle and we were back into our party Zone.......well we were never out of it to be back but still....... This is Fun Time- Umang 2005. Honestly this was like half marathon not a full fledged fest. But still we were happy atleast dere is something better then nothing. The ground was all set........ So in the beginning groups were formed for Fashion Show and later for Dance- both for inter-college events. Both the groups use to practice mostly at same time. I became lucky to be a part of dance group and more so to witness the fashion show practice. Most of the group members for fashion show were all who performed last time. In gals- Nisha, Shirisha, Divya, Namarata etc and in guyz - Mohit, Bharat, Abhiskek, Jayesh, Darpan etc. I can pretty well remember that partner of Nisha was Mohit and i had real great fun wid mohit. He use to make lot of funny faces. Us waqt meri sameer se bhi aur achi dosti ho gayi. Namarata use to practice for fashion show aur sameer wahan ruka rehtha tha uske liye. I was chosen as the medium for their interaction as they couldn't do it openly. Reason: Namrata ke bade bhai ka dost bhi wahan par tha aur usse sab pata chalta rehtha tha. So she was scared. So back 2 fashion show- the gal that had set stage on fire was Priya. She was in Final Year of Civil and was the General secretary of college. Whoa wat a performance........she gave the oomph factor to so many guys. In dance there were mainly 2 gals - prateeksha and namarata sarjekar. This was the time i came to know of two gals. In guyz- Ritesh, Mayank, I and shriekanth. We all performed only at one place in KJ Somaiya college. Ab yaar mauka mila tha toh kuch use toh karna chahiye. BUt hamare college ko toh jante ho na. But I had a good time. I have to admit Namarta Sarjekar was really good at dance and she was the main attraction while performing. Sports were the biggest attraction for guys. Box Cricket the most popular of all sports event in all indoor events. All the college gathered at one point to witness the great rivalries. That was the only time i got an opportunity to lead a complete team and the result our team was in finals of Box Cricket tournament. In the team there was no star player but a team full of committed players. Rohan Kokate, Rohan Patil, Shailesh, Ketan Kale, Sameer Khanolkar, Sandeep Rai and i. Fortunately i got an opportunity to lead and the team performed beyond its expectations. Rohan and sameer once rescued the team, sandeep and ketan played superbly.........Everyone chipped in, i will say every team that we faced could bat well but the stand out factor in our team was bowling. Shailesh bowled brilliantly i will say and the fielding at the boundary and near batsmen was superb. Our team almost stopped every possible run virtually making scoring opportunities tough. Our first match was against FE which we won easily as expected. But in the middle of the tournament we had to confront the Favourites. He was the sports secretary at that time. Ramzan, an allrounder and tough competitor in Box cricket. We stood tall and majorly our belief and confidence that we can win helped us to shore the win on our side. Now we were the favourites to win the tournament as it progressed we improved our performances virtually. I did experimented few times as before final i wanted the team to have experience of both batting first and chasing. In the middle we batted first after chasing the scores so many times. Final was against Ashish's team. They even created furore by being the first FE team to ever come into final. He was a very popular guy. Now the match was between FE and SE, nobody could have dreamed of anything like this. We batted second and needed to chase an easy score of 21 in 4 overs. All the FE gathered there for the teams support. We were going easy as i did scored 11 in first over. But soon saw a sudden collapse. I wanted to take most of the strike and winning the final, that thought weighed on me. Rohan patil gave away his wicket so that i could bat on. Rohan Kokate got run out as i ran to the strikers end not giving thought into my partners view. I committed mistakes and that i knew could have costed us dearly. Now it was all left on me to win the match. But someone got me runout and it was the end. In this match sandeep was not playing so we took chance with nil. BUt you remeber he loves to walk.....he was in so hurry that he hit the ball outside and walked away. We lost. The best opportunity went away, the dream, glory all was gone in a flash. While parallely there were other cricket matches going on -Overarm Cricket. This time the matches were not beteween classes but between the departments. So here was Team from E/T dept. where i got a chance to play as an opener. I was the sole representative from SE E/T. First match was against Chemical, they were again favourites to win the match. E/T i guess never performed to the potential and E/T teams were always considered cakewalks. We scored pretty decently - 102 in 12 overs. Mohit-the model was in chemicals team and he was in the form of his life. He put up a splendid bowling performance,i can pretty well remember he bowled atleats 10-12 wides before finishing his over. By no time our teams score was 64 in 6 overs. There was drinks break and i got out on score of 26 trying to hit the ball out of ground. Overall we played well and won our first match easily. All credit to bowlers who bowled superbly especially juffin -BE E/T. We were into semifinals and next match was against IT led by Lucky. We scored around 140 in 18 overs. All of us thought we had played first session well now its time to give our best in second session. We started pretty well. They were 56/6 in 8 overs. We thought it would be tough for them and we have nailed the match. I was that confident that i was thinking of Final match and my batting, how would i build my innings. But Lucky on its own turned the tide and the match. he batted out of skin and sensibly to take his team home. I will say they had the luck on their side also. As in final moments when runrate was getting beyond them they got few nicks which helped them in their task and were slightly away from WK from catches. But it was not supposed to be our day and we lost. We all were heartbroken but that is just a match. Eventually IT won the finals and Lucky guided the weak team on its shoulders to glory.
